Today is my dad's birthday. He was born 64 years ago. I've been thinking about him a lot today, and thinking of my little one who will be carrying on his name. I wonder if they have any knowledge of each other at this point.
My dad was the oldest and only son to my grandmother. Back then, she wouldn't have known she was carrying a boy, like I have the opportunity to know today. I wonder what he was like as a baby, and how my grandmother felt as she was young and expecting. She was an excellent mother to her children, and a great example to me of how I hope to be.
I've heard stories of how my dad was as a child -- an intelligent, active little guy who loved animals and wanted to be a cowboy. I hope that my little one will have his good qualities: intelligence, work ethic, sense of humor, physically gifted, great voice, honesty, and natural leadership.
Happy birthday, dad. I miss you.
