This is similar to what I've been thinking. The global demand for autos is 70million/year, regardless of whether GM exists. If GM stops making cars, somebody else will make more. Mostly, for economic and political reasons, much of this production will still happen in the US. Possibly even at the same plants GM now operates. (Only difference will be no union - and that is what Democrats are fighting for).
Here is a reminder that when auto execs and UAW chief talk about what they want, they mean it at a very narrow and personal level, and don't really have anybody else's interests in mind. They have one goal, which is to remain in power.
