When I was a junior in high school, a kid in the class above me told me he was going to study engineering at college. I had no idea what that meant. My dad actually had a degree in engineering, but that didn't help me since he didn't work as an engineer. When I was a senior, we had one of the biggest FAILs of all time at career day. This civil engineer, with what I now understand to be a typical engineering personality, came to talk to us about designing roads. Yeah, real interesting. They're flat. And straight. And solid. He made all of us extremely sure we did NOT want to be engineers.
